UPDATE: Pedestrian struck downtown

KAMLOOPS – At approximately 7:40 a.m. Monday a 24-year-old male pedestrian in a marked crosswalk was struck by a female driver on 12 Avenue and Battle Street.

Cpl. Cheryl Bush, spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP, said the pedestrian was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The 29-year-old female driver remained at the scene. Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be factors, but the sun glare in the driver's eyes may have been a factor as she was driving east-bound. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

  1. exactly why right of way should be taken away from pedestrians…stupid people think the law will protect them so they don’t bother to make eye contact or yield,. or god forbid stop and let the car pass…but hey…they law says they have the right of way so every month some idiot who has been programed to blindly follow government. when will people learn natural law out does defacto government legislation every time?

I drove that same area at approximately 7:25 this morning – the sidewalk was in shadow and the street was blindingly bright from the mega-watt sun directly in my eyes.As I approached the crosswalk, I was praying,’if anyone is there, don’t step out, PLEASE don’t step out!’ Only as I drove over the crosswalk could I see into the shadowed area of the sidewalk. My sympathies to both the injured young man and the driver!
