Say it ain’t so: Alberta Premier Redford admits loyalty to NHL’s Boston Bruins

EDMONTON – Alberta Premier Alison Redford has let the cat — or rather the bear — out of the bag when it comes to her hockey loyalties.

Redford told a luncheon crowd that while she roots for the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames, her first love is the Boston Bruins.

Redford is not the only political leader in Alberta who cheers for the Bruins.

Liberal Leader Raj Sherman says that although he grew up in B.C., he pulled for the Bruins rather than the Vancouver Canucks.

NDP Leader Brian Mason says he is a Habs fans, and has vivid childhood memories of sitting in smoke-filled living rooms watching his Montreal Canadiens thrash the Chicago Blackhawks.

Wildrose Opposition Leader Danielle Smith says she grew up an Edmonton Oilers fan, but now that she represents a southern riding, she is also a fan of the Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
