Canadian Eugenie Bouchard wins first-round match, advances at BNP Paribas Open

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Canadian Eugenie Bouchard made it through the first round of the BNP Paribas Open, defeating Risa Ozaki of Japan in three sets on Thursday.

The 22-year-old Bouchard, from Westmount, Que., dropped the first set at Indian Wells before battling back to take the next two against her 145th-ranked opponent, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in just under two hours.

Bouchard, ranked 37th, will face No. 26 Sloane Stephens of the United States in the second round.
