Gender neutral bathroom a necessity

KAMLOOPS – A family washroom at Riverside Park would make the park more accessible, one group is saying in support of a pilot project.

Late last month the coordinated enforcement task force agreed to a pilot project that will see gender neutral washroom facilities at the park by next summer and Heather Brandon of People in Motion is very supportive of the project.

“(I) encourage you to support this initiative,” Brandon says in a letter to council.

Brandon says the group provides an average of 1,250 disable parking permits to Kamloops residents annually, but without an accessible gender neutral washroom many people are excluded from attending events at Riverside Park, including those with a caregiver of a different gender, who are visually impaired, requiring a scooter or with learning delays.
