KELOWNA – After helping his handler nab two break and enter suspects last Saturday, Ice proved how police dogs can be an officer's best friend.
Multiple officers responded to a report of a commercial business alarm in the area of Finns Road and Evans Court on Feb. 11 at 4:13 a.m, Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a release.
Police viewed live video security footage showing the suspects inside the fenced compound.
O’Donaghey says Ice and his handler searched the compound and found the first suspect. The man was hiding under a trailer and in possession of almost four grams of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Ice found the second suspect hiding between pipes stored in a secure compound of a neighbouring property.
"The man was taken into custody and found in possession of bags, flashlights, two-way radios and suspected stolen property," O’Donaghey says.
A 42-year-old Kelowna man was held in custody and later released. A 34-year-old Kelowna man faces potential charges. He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court tomorrow.
