Hurricanes, Alexander Semin agree on 5-year, $35M contract extension through 2017-18

RALEIGH, N.C. – Alexander Semin has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Carolina Hurricanes.

The team announced Monday that Semin will make $7 million per year through the 2017-18 season.

Semin left Washington last summer and signed a one-year deal worth $7 million with the Hurricanes with the hope that a fresh start in Carolina would rejuvenate his career.

He has a team-best 22 assists and is second with 30 points while skating on the left wing on the Eric Staal-led top line for Carolina.

General manager Jim Rutherford calls Semin a “major contributor” to that No. 1 line.
