New apartment complex proposed for downtown Kelowna

KELOWNA – A new multi-family apartment complex is planned to go in the Kelowna's downtown core.

The proposed six-storey, 93 unit complex would be located in the 800 block property between Leon Avenue and Harvey Aveue. The rezoning application necessary for the project goes to a public hearing at city hall on Feb. 24.

“We welcome having more residents and workers downtown,” Downtown Kelowna Association executive director Peggy Athans says. “It’s a trend we’re seeing across North America, people are wanting to move into urban centers where they can walk and don’t need a car.”

The current property will have to be rezoned from a two-dwelling housing to a medium density multiple housing to accommodate the complex.

Council approved the first reading of the proposal on Jan. 30.
