QUEBEC – Finance Minister Carlos Leitao is promising another balanced budget for Quebec when he tables the province’s 2016-17 economic blueprint in the national assembly this afternoon.
The budget will be Leitao’s third since the Liberals took power in 2014.
The final numbers for the current 2015-16 year ending March 31 are also expected to show a balanced budget.
Premier Philippe Couillard has overseen major government cuts as well as increased taxes and fees in his bid to rid Quebec of the red ink that has plagued the province in recent years.
He has previously said the Education Department should receive additional funds after being the target of cuts over the past few years.
