B.C. Seniors Games start today

KAMLOOPS – There may be a lot of silver to be found amongst the 3,700 athletes competing today in the 2013 B.C. Seniors Games, but they're all competing for gold.

The Games are fully underway in Kamloops with 10 different sporting events, including badminton, bowling, hockey, pickleball, track and soccer, scheduled for today. Thursday and Friday will see all 24 sports played while the finals will take place Saturday in about 16 sports before the closing ceremony caps off the five-day tournament.

As participants from around the province descend on city facilities in an effort to both compete and socialize, several road closures can be expected, including a stretch of Summit Drive (the connector) on Saturday and Dallas Drive on Thursday and Friday.

This evening the opening ceremonies will take place at the Interior Savings Centre while participant events will take place Thursday and Friday evening.

More than 1,100 volunteers are helping to make the games happen.
