KAMLOOPS – A chronic prohibited driver who was convicted for killing a pedestrian at a Kamloops crosswalk is appealing his six-month jail sentence.
Donald Isadore, who has never held a permanent drivers' licence, filed a notice of appeal in B.C. Supreme Court claiming provincial court Judge Stella Frame failed to properly consider his native background in her sentence.
Isadore, who is 64, was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian after Valerie Brook was struck and killed in the crosswalk on Nov. 21, 2012.
Brook was walking across the street on a green light while Isadore was turning left.
In delivering her sentence, Frame called Brook’s death "an incomprehensible tragedy."
In the last three years, Isadore has been caught driving while prohibited five times — including twice in the weeks after he killed the woman.
"He showed a complete and relentless disregard for the law and court orders," Frame said.
At the time of the crash that killed Brook, Isadore — who has a record of driving infractions dating back to 1986 — was bound by multiple driving prohibitions and suspensions.
Isadore’s appeal will be heard in B.C. Supreme Court on Jan. 5, 2015.

Can you believe this, his sentence was REDUCED to three months of house arrestand four and a half months of curfew!
I don’t understand, how does sentencing on a crime like this have anything to do with his race? Sorry if I sound insensitive but I was raised with the idea in my head that treating someone differently because of their race is unacceptable whether its negative or positive. Does this guy actually think that he shouldn’t be required to hold a license to drive or be held responsible for his actions due to his racial background? I am so sorry for your loss to anyone who knew this poor women, I just hope in the end that this irresponsible human being is taken off the road. Permanently. I apologize if I am offending anyone I know this is a delicate issue.
Throw away the key!
Six months for murder and he’s going to appeal? What an ass…apparently he is above the law and has shown that in his ignorance.
