Lawyer: Man loses eye after being stunned in face by police

MIAMI – The attorney for a man being investigated in the disappearance of his girlfriend and her daughter says his client has lost his right eye after being stunned in the face by police.

Miami Beach attorney Michael Grieco told The Miami Herald (http://goo.gl/qlhNCX) Monday that Gustavo Castano had nothing to do with the disappearance of 43-year-old Liliana Moreno and 9-year-old Daniela Moreno.

Miami-Dade detectives began searching for the two last week after relatives from Colombia reported they hadn’t heard from them for several days.

Detectives eventually tracked Castano to a Home Depot parking lot, where they say he was threatening to hurt himself with a knife. Police intervened, and Castano was taken to a nearby trauma centre with what police called self-inflicted wounds. He was in stable condition.

Miami-Dade police didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.
