Canadiens defenceman Bartley out with lower body injury, Hanley called up

MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Sunday that defenceman Victor Bartley will be out day to day with a lower body injury.

The Canadiens brought up Joel Hanley from the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League on an emergency recall. The six-foot-one 193-pound Hanley signed as a free agent with Montreal on July 1 from the AHL Portland Pirates.

The Keswick, Ont. native, who played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst before turning pro, has yet to play an NHL game. He had five goals and eight assists in 61 AHL games this season.

Bartley, who has played eight games since he was called up from St. John’s, joins a list of injured Montreal defencemen that includes P.K. Subban, Tom Gilbert and Jeff Petry.

The Canadiens face the Calgary Flames at the Bell Centre on Sunday night.
