Man ‘approaching children’ outside Westsyde school not suspicious: Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS – Police are now saying an incident of a man approaching two children outside of a Westsyde elementary school was not suspicious.

According to a news release, Kamloops RCMP received a report yesterday, Feb. 22, from a mother who said her 11-year-old daughter was approached by a strange man while the girl was walking home from Arthur Stevenson Elementary with a group of friends.

Police had said the man called out to the girls, asked where their parents were and reached out to them. The girls ran and told their parents about the incident.

"Further investigation showed that the male was greeting other students nearby who knew him," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said in a news release this morning, Feb. 23.

Everyone involved was identified and police confirmed they knew each other.
