Crosby, Quick and Monahan named the NHL’s three stars of the week

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby has been named the N-H-L’s first star of the week as he continues his resurgent second half of the season.

Crosby had two goals and five assists in four games as the Penguins (40-24-8, 88 points) extend their winning streak to six games and move into second place in the Metropolitan Division.

Crosby extended his point streak to 12 games (six goals, 14 assists). After struggling early in the season, Crosby now sits third in league scoring with 76 points (31 goals, 45 assists).

His offensive outburst comes at a crucial time for Pittsburgh, which is making a playoff push without Evgeni Malkin. The star centre is out for the remainder of the regular season with an upper-body injury.

Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick went 3-0-0 with a 1.32 goals-against average, .953 save percentage and one shutout last week to earn second-star honours.

Calgary centre Sean Monahan had five goals and two assists in four games and picked up the third-star award.
