Rockets burn Oil Kings 10-1

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 10-1 on Wednesday night in Prospera Place.

The Rockets had an explosive first period scoring three times in the opening 20 minutes. Goals came from Nick Merkley (20), Carsen Twarynski (12), and Tomas Soustal (17). Rockets led 3-0.

Rockets Captain Rodney Southam (11) scored on a solid solo effort 3:39 into the second period to put the Rockets up by four. The score remained 4-0 into the third period.

The Oil Kings got on the board at 9:34 of the the third but that would be it for the visitors. The Rockets
meanwhile collected third period goals from Dillon Dube (9), Lucas Johansen (5), Kyle Topping (11), Kole Lind (27), and two more from Rodney Southam (12, 13) to complete the hat-trick. That would be it as the Rockets win 10-1 final.

Brodan Salmond improves to 10-7-2-0 on the season saving 14 of 15 shots he faced. The Rockets outshot the Oil Kings 53-15.

The Rockets improve to 35-20-5-0 on the year.

Kelowna hits the road for three in three starting on Friday in Kamloops, then moving to Seattle on Saturday, and finishing off the weekend in Spokane on Sunday. Kelowna will return home on Wednesday, March 1st to take on the Prince George Cougars at Prospera Place.
