Lots to do this weekend in Penticton

PENTICTON – Dances, multiculturalism, live theatre, live entertainment and seedy sales are some of the activities taking place in the South Okanagan and Penticton this weekend.

The One World Multicultural Festival takes place Saturday, Feb. 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

A number of the region’s newest immigrants will present non-typical food dishes as they prepare authentic cuisine from their homelands. Twenty-three cultures will be represented with 11 multicultural performances planned for the afternoon. There will also be 10 food vendors, eight information booths, seven merchandise vendors and three immigrants will talk about their success immigration to the South Okanagan.

The free event offers a unique way to experience global fare, says South Okanaagan Immigrant and Community Services Program Manager Tahira Saeed.

The Many Hats Theatre Company presents, "Maggie’s Getting Married” Friday, Feb. 24, Saturday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m., at the Cannery Stage in Penticton. Tickets are $19 to $22.

Penticton hosts a Seedy Saturday event on Feb. 25 at the Okanagan College Campus in Penticton. There will be organic, non-GMO seed and plant sales, along with seed vendors, local produce, juice, honey, a seed swap table and more. Master gardeners will be on site. Cost for the event is $2 with free parking and free workshops. Seedy Saturday runs from 10 a.m to 2 p.m in the Community Room of Okanagan College.

There’s a Mardi Gras Masquerade at the Sandman Inn in Penticton, Saturday, Feb. 25 from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Dress up and mask up for tis celebration of Mardi Gras. Tickets included a glass of champagne, hors d’oeuvres all night and chances at prizes. Stay for the midnight unveiling with dance music supplied by DJ Tenacious T. Tickets are $60.

The Snowflake Ball takes place Saturday, Feb. 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Senior’s Drop In Centre at 2965 South Main St. in Penticton. The daddy and daughter dance features DJ Haymaker, with dancing, games, pizza, snacks and punch. Tickets are $30. Advance tickets are available on the Snowflake Ball Penticton Facebook event page.

The House is a-rockin’ band jam with host band Yard Katz gets underway at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 and rocks until 5 p.m. The blues band jam costs $5.

Dave Sinclair and Keith Bennett perform at The Dream Cafe on Saturday, Feb. 25, starting at 8 p.m. Cost is $40

A fundraiser for Cheysa’s service dog takes place at Cannery Brewing on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a silent auction, door prizes, an open dance floor and the Get Bent dance team circulating the dance floor to teach the Salsa to anyone interested. Silent auction donations can be dropped off at Cannery Brewing or Get Bent.

Cannery Brewing also hosts Aaron Goodwin, Sunday, February 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free.
