FORT WORTH, Texas – Police in Texas say the estranged wife of internationally renowned pianist Vadym Kholodenko had sought mental treatment the day before their two young daughters were found dead.
Sofya Tsygankova is accused of capital murder in the deaths of 5-year-old Nika Kholodenko and 1-year-old Michela Kholodenko.
An arrest warrant affidavit released Tuesday says Tsygankova was found Thursday in a bloody nightgown, kneeling on the floor of the family home in Benbrook, a Fort Worth suburb.
Tsygankova later told police she remembered taking pills and thought she had committed suicide. Police said she asked if she had done “anything bad” to her children.
Tsygankova was booked Tuesday into the Tarrant County jail. Her attorney, Joetta Keene, said she intends to plead not guilty at an arraignment expected Wednesday.
