Police make second arrest after shooting along the Canada-U.S. border

UNDATED, – A second man believed to be involved in a shooting withAmerican border agents along the Canada-U.S. border has been arrested.

Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks, in Bellingham, Wash., says the suspect was arrested on the Canadian side of the border about 4 a.m. this morning.

Police in Abbotsford, B.C., will be releasing more details on the arrest later.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Michael Milne says agents on patrol yesterday encountered two men in camouflage and wearing backpacks in an area known as a drug smuggling corridor.

Milne says one of the men fired at the agents and ran off into the bushes, while the other man was apprehended.

Because the shooting took place just a few kilometres away from the Huntingdon border crossing in Abbotsford, Canadian police set up roadblocks and launched a helicopter as part of the search for the second suspect.
