Scotland beats China to move into first place at men’s world curling playdowns

VICTORIA – Scotland defeated China 7-4 today to move into sole possession of first place at the world men’s curling championship.

Scotland is 8-2 after 15 draws, just ahead of Canada’s Brad Jacobs at 7-2.

Canada will play Denmark and Sweden later in the day.

In other early games at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, Sweden edged Denmark 7-6, the Czech Republic beat Japan 10-5 and Russia topped the United States 6-5.

Sweden, Denmark and the Czech Republic are tied in third place at 6-4.

The top four teams at the end of round-robin play tonight will qualify for the playoffs. Tiebreakers will be played Friday if necessary.
