Japan’s Fujisawa tops Russia’s Sidorova in 11th end in semis of women’s worlds

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa nailed a hit and roll in the 11th end for a 7-5 win over Russia’s Anna Sidorova on Saturday in the semifinal of the women’s curling world championships.

Fujisawa will play Switzerland’s Binia Feltscher for gold on Sunday.

Sidorova faces Canada’s Chelsea Carey on Sunday morning in the bronze-medal game.

Russia beat Canada 7-4 earlier Saturday in the 3-4 Page playoff.

Japan and Russia were tied 1-1 after five ends.

Fujisawa used a hit and roll to scored two in the sixth, but Sidorova came right back with a deuce of her own in the seventh to tie it 3-3.

Japan scored a single in the eighth end, then Sidorova’s takeout attempt came up short, giving Fujisawa a steal of one for a 5-3 lead.

Russia made a clutch deuce in the 10th end to tie it 5-5 and force extra ends to set up Fujisawa’s heroics.
