Weekend activities provide a taste of spring with homebuilders event

PENTICTON – This weekend presents a crossover of activities in Penticton and the South Okanagan with winter and spring things to do.

The 22nd annual Canadian Home Builders Association Home and Renovation Show takes place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre on Saturday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4, with a food concession on site and free parking. The show features home building and renovation products.

The Apex Mountain NORAM Moguls competition takes place Sunday March 5, all day at Apex Mountain Resort. The Freestyle NORAM cup mogul and dual mogul event is part of the International Ski Federation tour, with a competitive level one notch below that of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. Up to 100 athletes will be participating, with some of the competitors coming from the Apex Frestyle club alumni.

Devon Coyote performs at The Dream Cafe, Friday, March 3 at 8 p.m. The Canadian indie artist’s music is described at a timeless fusion of roots, rock and blues. Cost is $33, tickets are available online.

The Silver Screen Scoundrels will provide the entertainment Saturday night at The Dream. The scoundrels have created a unique act combining music, comedy and silent film. The show starts at 8 p.m., tickets are available online.

Oren Barter performs at Cannery Brewing, Sunday, March 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There’s no cover charge, so bring a friend and enjoy some local, live music.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
