Raptors Jonas Valanciunas diagnosed with flexion extension neck injury

TORONTO – Toronto Raptors centre Jonas Valanciunas has been diagnosed with a flexion extension injury of the neck and will be re-evaluated Thursday.

The rookie spent the night in a Chicago hospital after hurting his neck in a collision with teammate Rudy Gay in the closing seconds of Tuesday night’s 101-98 win over the Bulls.

Valanciunas’s head hit Gay’s shoulder on a scramble for a loose ball. He was tended to for several minutes on the sideline and had his neck placed in a brace before being taken away on a gurney.

The Raptors said test results were negative, and Valanciunas was scheduled to fly home Wednesday.
