Two Canadians up for Commonwealth Short Story Prize

LONDON – Two Canadians are finalists for this year’s Commonwealth Short Story Prize.

Don McLellan made the cut for “Children of the Zocalo” and Trent Lewin is on the short list with “Vestigial.”

A total of 26 stories are in the running for the fifth annual prize, which honours the best piece of unpublished short fiction in English.

The international panel of judges represents each of the five regions of the Commonwealth.

Regional winners receive £2,500 (about C$3,700) and the overall winner receives £5,000 (about C$7,400).

The regional winners will be announced on May 4 and the overall winner will be announced in September.
