Trial approaching for Salmon Arm man charged in Armstrong manslaughter case

VERNON – Legal arguments get underway later this month in a North Okanagan manslaughter trial.

Logan Scott is accused of killing Armstrong mother Jillian McKinty, 27, who was found dead in her home Nov. 27, 2013. She had two children.

Lawyers discussed the case in Vernon Supreme Court this morning, March 8, by teleconference and confirmed dates for a two-week trial by judge starting April 24. A one-week hearing will be held in advance of the trial, starting March 27, to argue the admissibility of police statements.

Scott’s lawyer, Glenn Verdurmen has also filed a charter notice claiming his clients rights were violated during the investigation.

The case is being presided over by Justice Arne Silverman, a Vancouver-based judge. Lawyer Shirley Meldrum is arguing the Crown’s case.

Scott was arrested in August 2014, almost a year after McKinty’s death. In an RCMP press release issued at the time, police described him as a 31-year-old Salmon Arm resident.

Scott also faces one count of theft under $5000.
