Defending champions Park, Thomas continue on at Canadian mixed doubles

SASKATOON – Defending champions Kalynn Park and Charley Thomas continued on at the Canadian mixed doubles championship on Saturday night with a 8-4 playoff win over Joanne Courtney and Reid Carruthers.

Park and Thomas scored four in the third end before adding three more in the fifth. Both teams shook hands after the sixth end.

Park and Thomas will now face Pool A champions Laura Crocker and Geoff Walker on Sunday morning in the quarter-finals. Crocker and Walker were perfect through round robin play at 7-0.

Rachel Homan and Mark Nichols are also moving on after routing Jennifer Baxter and Mark Dacey 8-3. Homan and Nichols face Pool B winners Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant in the quarters.

Emma Miskew and Ryan Fry scored three in the eighth end to rally past Nancy Martin and Catlin Schneider while Lisa Weagle and John Epping got past Janet and Hugh Murphy 8-5.

Miskew and Fry play Dawn and Mike McEwen in the quarters with Weagle and Epping facing Marliese Kasner and Dustin Kalthoff.

The McEwen’s were also perfect at 7-0 through round-robin action.

All four pool winners received a bye into the quarter-finals with the final set for Sunday night.
