MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens recalled forward John Scott from their American Hockey League affiliate on Sunday.

The 33-year-old left winger created a buzz around the NHL when he was playfully voted in by fans as captain of the Pacific Division team for this year’s all-star game.

Scott was originally not slated to compete in the game due to the Canadiens keeping him in the AHL, but the NHL reversed its decision to let Scott be an all-star.

He didn’t disappoint and was named the all-star game’s most valuable player.

Scott was acquired along with defenceman Victor Bartley from the Arizona Coyotes on Jan. 15 with Jarred Tinordi and Stefan Fournier going the other way. Scott was immediately assigned to the AHL.

The St. Catharines, Ont., native had two goals and two assists and was a minus-three rating in 27 games for the IceCaps. The six-foot-eight enforcer also accumulated 85 penalty minutes.

Scott appeared in 11 NHL games for the Coyotes this season and had one assist.

Forward Michael McCarron was assigned to the AHL St. John’s IceCaps in a corresponding move.

The 21-year-old McCarron had a goal and an assist in 20 games this season for the Canadiens.

Montreal (36-37-6) has three games remaining on its regular season schedule, including hosting the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night.
