James Hannaham wins PEN-Faulkner prize for fiction

NEW YORK, N.Y. – James Hannaham’s “Delicious Foods,” a sharp and innovative thriller about race and class, has won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.

The PEN/Faulkner Foundation announced Tuesday that Hannaham will receive $15,000. The four other finalists — Julie Iromuanya, Viet Thanh Nguyen, Elizabeth Tallent and Luis Urrea — each will be given $5,000.

One of the country’s top literary prizes, the PEN/Faulkner award was established in 1981. Previous winners include Ann Patchett, Philip Roth and Sherman Alexie.
