Diane Lane to return to Broadway in something familiar

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Diane Lane will be going back to something familiar on Broadway — “The Cherry Orchard.”

The Roundabout Theatre Company said Tuesday that the “Unfaithful” and “Man of Steel” star will headline their revival of Anton Chekhov’s masterpiece this fall.

That’s the same play where, in 1977 at age 12, Lane was in the ensemble at Lincoln Center, goofing around with co-stars Raul Julia and Meryl Streep.

The revival will be directed by Simon Godwin from an adaptation by Stephen Karam. Previews begin Sept. 15 at the American Airlines Theatre. Opening night is Oct. 16

Lane’s recent stage credits include “The Mystery of Love & Sex,” a play by Bathsheba Doran at Lincoln Center Theater last year, and a revival of “Sweet Bird of Youth” in Chicago in 2012.
