NDP would freeze ferry rates; create student grant program

VANCOUVER – NDP Leader Adrian Dix says an NDP government would freeze B.C. Ferries fares at current rates starting next year while undertaking an audit of the company.

As well, he says his government will spend $226 million dollars over the next three years establishing a grants program for students, improving completion rates for apprentices and supporting arts and cultural activities across British Columbia.

Dix has released what he’s calling his plan to create jobs and build a new economy.

He says students could receive grants up to a maximum of $1,500 — the equivalent of about three courses — depending on income, a program that would be funded through the NDP’s proposed tax on banks.

Dix also says the NDP will review and update the province’s liquor laws.
