Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Telesta Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:TST). Health-care. Down 2.5 cents, or 21.74 per cent, to nine cents on 24.4 million shares.

AuRico Metals Inc. (TSX:AMI). Miner. Down one cent, or 1.39 per cent, to 71 cents on 19.9 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace, rail equipment. Up one cent, or 0.79 per cent, to $1.28 on 8.3 million shares.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Up 26 cents, or 13.40 per cent, to $2.20 on 7.6 million shares.

Kinross Gold Corp. (TSX:K). Miner. Up one cent, or 0.21 per cent, to $4.67 on 7.5 million shares.

Pacific Exploration & Production Corp. (TSX:PRE). Oil and gas. Up four cents, or 4.30 per cent, to 97 cents on 6.1 million shares.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (TSX:VRX). Drugs, health-care products. Up $7, or 18.53 per cent, to $44.77 on 2.6 million shares. Valeant may be just weeks away from hiring a new CEO to oversee the embattled drugmaker’s turnaround, one of the company’s largest investors said Wednesday. Bill Ackman of Pershing Square Capital Management, who also recently joined the Quebec-based company’s board of directors, said there are a number of candidates for the top job under consideration since the announcement in late March that CEO Michael Pearson would be leaving.
