Government to contribute $7 million towards new water treatment plant in Peachland

PEACHLAND – The federal and provincial government’s are splitting some of the costs for a new water treatment plant for the District of Peachland.

The $18.8 million project is expected to take two years and will start as soon as possible, according to a District media release. Both the provincial and federal governments are contributing $3.48 million each to the project, while the District of Peachland will be responsible for the remaining costs.

The District says $7.6 million will come from reserves, while $4.3 million come from long term borrowing.

“We are very grateful for the funding participation of the senior governments in this much needed project,” Mayor Cindy Fortin says in the release. “Water quality has been identified as this Council’s top priority, and this funding will help us achieve our goal.”
