Manitoba parties make campaign promises on tourism, ring roads and perks
WINNIPEG – Manitoba’s Progressive Conservatives are promising to spend more money to promote tourism if they form the next provincial government.
Leader Brian Pallister says the province is lagging behind Saskatchewan, which spends $7 million a year on tourism investment, so he’s promising to spend $28 million over five years on marketing.
NDP Leader Greg Selinger says his party would fast-track the completion of the inner ring road in Winnipeg, which is currently set for completion in 2031.
He says the road would secure Winnipeg’s place as Western Canada’s transportation hub and Manitoba’s economic engine.
Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari, meanwhile, is promising to put an end to excessive perks received by MLAs, including the car allowance for cabinet ministers and the leader of the official opposition.
The election is to be held April 19.
