ISTANBUL – Canadian Cyle Larin added to his goal total in Turkey on Friday, scoring in Besiktas’ 3-2 win over Istanbul Basaksehir in Super Lig play.
The 25-year-old from Brampton, Ont., opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with fellow Canadian Atiba Hutchinson playing provider.
French fullback Valentin Rozier found Hutchinson, who outmuscled a defender and headed to the byline where he angled a cross back into the penalty box. Besiktas forward Vincent Aboubakar faked a shot, sending the ball forward instead to Larin, whose backheel deflected off a defender into the goal.
It was Larin’s 14th league goal of the season, behind Aboubakar (15) and league leader
Aaron Boupendza (18) of Hatayspor.
Besiktas, known as the Black Eagles, top the Super Lig standings at 20-5-3. Istanbul Basaksehir is 16th at 7-14-8
