OTTAWA – It was a welcome sight for the Ottawa Senators.
Erik Karlsson, the NHL’s top defenceman last season, participated in his first full practice Friday.
There’s no timetable on his return but originally the thought was he’d need six months to fully recover.
Karlsson underwent surgery Feb. 14 after suffering a torn left Achilles tendon.
He required surgery after sustaining the injury when Matt Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins stepped on the back of Karlsson’s leg during a game.
Karlsson led NHL defenceman in goals (19) and points (78) last season and had amassed 10 points in 14 games prior to being hurt.
