Travel trailer destruction at Motoplex Speedway

VERNON – The racing season has wrapped at the Motoplex Speedway in Vernon with one of the track’s most popular events — The Travel Trailer Night of Destruction.

It was pure mayhem Saturday, Sept. 13 as race cars pulling campers burned around the track in a cross between NASCAR and a demolition derby.

The race, which features the destruction of travel trailers, would make the hosts of the popular BBC TV show Top Gear proud. The hosts are known for their hatred of campers, or caravans as they are called in the UK, clogging up the motorways. They come up with unique ways to destroy travel trailers.

No one was hurt, but these trailers will never again grace the Okanagan highways and byways.

The night also featured the Hit-to-Pass race, which is exactly what the name says. Drivers have to hit the car they are passing.

The cherry on top of the night was the streaker. The unidentified man decided to run the race track wearing only a pair of runners. He was chased by track officials but made his escape by climbing a barbed wire topped chain link fence. No word if a complaint of public nudity has been made.
