VIDEO: Fire rips through downtown Kamloops garage
KAMLOOPS – Police are actively investigating the cause of an aggressive fire that tore through a garage early this morning.
Dave McMahon, Assistant Fire Chief says there were no occupants home and there are no reported injuries from the blaze. He says crews were called to the fire in the 200 block of St. Paul Street West at 1:39 a.m. today, March 19.
"It was a residential garage, an older timber framed building. The fire didn't involve the home," McMahon says.
"Crews got the fire out quickly, but they had to stay on scene for a while to watch for several hotspots. There's no indication on how the fire stated."
Neighbours Judy and Mark Mosset were woken abruptly when another resident knocked on their door to warn them of the fire.
"I looked out the windows and all I saw was flame and I just screamed. Even the power lines were on fire."
Emergency crews were already on scene, so there was nothing else the Mossets could do but watch.
"Mark and I were getting very anxious because our car in our driveway was getting hot to the touch."
They say the property is undergoing renovations and there is no one living there right now.
"It's an old garage and there's been homeless people in and out for years."
Anyone with information on this fire is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
