Muslim groups thank police for foiling terror plot, denounce distortion of Islam

OTTAWA – A national Muslim group and community leaders are thanking police for foiling an alleged terror plot against a Via Rail train.

Ihsaan Gardee, executive director of the Canadian version of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, says the plot had nothing to do with the Muslim community as a whole.

Gardee says Muslims will continue to denounce any misguided individuals who distort the faith for their own personal or political agendas.

And, he points out, the initial tip to police came from an imam.

Imam Sami Metwally of the Ottawa Main Mosque says there is no justification for attacks on innocent people.
