Tranquille Market Corridor celebrated

KAMLOOPS – In August of 2013 the City of Kamloops began upgrades to the commercial area known as the ‘Tranquille Market Corridor’. These celebrated upgrades included a new multi-use path, better traffic flow, improved sidewalks, better safety standards, new street lights and intensive beautification areas.

The City of Kamloops and the North Shore Business Improvement Association celebrated the completion of this project today with a celebration along Tranquille Road.

The Tranquille project provided some significant benefits to Tranquille Road's business corridor. Improved lighting has enhanced the safety of pedestrians at crosswalks and provides a more vibrant atmosphere to the pedestrian corridor. The multi-use path provides a direct off-road connection of the bicycle paths at Overlanders Bridge to the shared bicycle path on Royal Avenue. The curb extensions constructed in the 200 and 300 blocks also improve the safety for pedestrians crossing Tranquille Road.

Deputy Mayor Tina Lange joined City staff, NSBIA Executive Director Steven Puhallo and representatives of the NSBIA this morning for a tour of the upgrades and ribbon cutting ceremony. The formalities were accompanied by a merchant sale, during which North Shore businesses participated with discounts and giveaways all day.
