Hazmat called to Kelowna bank for forgotten jug of liquid

KELOWNA – A forgotten package in an ATM vestibule caused a minor Hazmat response in Kelowna over the weekend.

The package, a jug of liquid with a hose out the top, was spotted on security camera at the Bank of Montreal on Dilworth Drive Sunday, March 26 around 4 p.m.

Platoon Capt. Tim Light says in a media release two individuals brought the object with them into the bank.

“After rearranging their belongings it seemed that they just forgot to take this container,” Light says in the release. “A minor Hazmat response was decided on which involved two members donning A level suits and containing the package and then over packing the item in a plastic containment barrel.”

The fire department's Hazardous Materials Team Leader was called to the seen to assess the package. It was determined the jug was not giving off a heat signature so the Ministry of Environment was called to arrange disposal.

No one is saying what the liquid was in the jug.
