Champions League hopes fading for Tottenham after 2-2 draw at Wigan in Premier League

LONDON – Tottenham’s hopes of reaching the Champions League took another blow Saturday when it was held to a 2-2 draw at relegation-threatened Wigan.

Tottenham looked to have a firm grip on third place in early March but needed a late own goal by Emmerson Boyce just to earn a point that at least moved the team level with fourth-place Chelsea.

Chelsea, though, has a superior goal difference and a game in hand over Tottenham. The London rivals are still to play each other.

Manchester City is close to securing second place as consolation for conceding the title to Manchester United after Yaya Toure’s late curling strike clinched a 2-1 win over West Ham.
