Videos of police interviews with mom accused of killing babies allowed at trial

CALGARY – Videos of police interviews with a Calgary woman accused of killing two of her babies will be admitted as evidence in her trial.

Justice Peter McIntyre has ruled that there is no indication that Meredith Borowiec’s (BOHR’-oh-wicks) video confession that she put the newborns in a trash bin wasn’t voluntary.

He said Borowiec was cautioned of her legal rights and given a chance to consult with a lawyer.

McIntyre also rejected defence arguments that police had violated the woman’s charter rights.

Borowiec, who is 31, is charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of two newborns in 2008 and 2009.

In the videos, Borowiec admits to placing her newborns in a trash bin, even though she knew they were alive.
