Blackhawks to host Penguins in outdoor regular-season game at Soldier Field

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Chicago Blackhawks will host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field in an outdoor game next season.

The NHL says the game is scheduled for March 1, 2014, at the home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears.

The event is part of the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, a group of NHL regular-season games planned for outdoor locations during the 2013-14 season.

It will mark the second time the Blackhawks have hosted an outdoor game.

Detroit beat Chicago 6-4 in the 2009 Winter Classic in front of 40,818 fans at Wrigley Field.

The Penguins will be participating in their third regular-season outdoor NHL game. They beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in a shootout in the 2008 Winter Classic at Ralph Wilson Stadium and lost 3-1 in the 2011 game to Washington at Heinz Field.
