Snow is pretty, but keep your eyes on the road

A big dump of snow Thursday night meant Vernon woke up to a layer of the white stuff on trees, on rooftops and on the roads.

Temperatures have been below average this Winter, and small talk in the grocery isle has turned to "Where's the snow?" A bunch of it fell yesterday, ending the snowfall hiatus.

Roads Thursday night were frosted with snow, and at least one vehicle lost control due to the slippery conditions.

An accident occurred at the corner of 20th Street and 53rd Avenue Thursday at 4:55 p.m. as snow was beginning to stick to the ground.

"There were no serious injuries, and no one was taken to hospital," Jack Blair, Deputy Chief Operations of Vernon Fire Rescue, says of the close call.

"We're advising everyone to please pay attention to road conditions."

The forecast calls for more snow this weekend and next week, though temperatures continue to be warmer than average.

Enjoy the snow, but remember,  the white stuff has a dark side too.
