Eric Staal named Canada’s captain for men’s world hockey championship

STOCKHOLM – Eric Staal will be Canada’s captain at the men’s world hockey championship.

The Carolina Hurricanes captain has won a world championship, Olympic gold medal and Stanley Cup during his career.

Winnipeg Jets forward Andrew Ladd and Dallas Stars defenceman Stephane Robidas will be the assistant captains.

Canada opens the tournament Saturday against Denmark and last won a world title in 2007.
