Free climber tumbles six metres, could have fallen 15 more, near Cache Creek
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – An afternoon of free climbing — scaling rock faces without ropes, harness or helmet — turned into a frightening ordeal for a Kamloops-area man and his grown son.
The two were free climbing Wednesday near Cache Creek, about 80 kilometres west of Kamloops, when the elder man, in his 40s, fell about six metres to a ledge.
He was stranded about 15 metres above the ground, with an injured elbow and shoulder, so his son called 911.
Members of Kamloops Search and Rescue and South Cariboo Search and Rescue joined forces to reach the man, lift him off the rock face and move him to a waiting ambulance.
Rescue officials remind anyone trying free climbing to use extreme caution.
The victim is recovering and his name has not been released. (CFJC)
