SAN FRANCISCO – The Latest on California’s late-season storm (all times local):
9:45 a.m.
A late-season storm has brought pounding rain to Northern California and is expected to drop snow on the southern Cascade range and the northern Sierra.
By early Friday, San Francisco had almost a quarter inch of rain while some locations in the North Bay had logged about a third of an inch of rain and Oakland saw about a tenth of an inch of precipitation.
The National Weather Service says Friday’s system could impact travel through Donner and Carson passes and near Lassen National Park. Snow should taper off by late evening.
Forecasters say up to 4 inches of snow will accumulate along Interstate 80 and Highway 50. Higher peaks could get 7 inches to 11 inches and Lassen can expect up to 16 inches.
Elsewhere, the north coast will be showery, and gusty winds are expected in the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys and across Southern California’s mountains and deserts, including Indio, where thousands of people are expected to attend the second weekend of the Coachella music festival.
