Salmon Arm area family reunited with stolen dog

SALMON ARM –  One year ago a dog was stolen from a family in the Salmon Arm area and they were finally reunited recently thanks to a serial number tattoo.

Police received a call from a local woman on March 17, 2017, reporting a possible recent location of her dog that was presumed stolen about one year ago, according to a RCMP media release.

Two officers found the missing dog with a man in Salmon Arm. Police were able to prove ownership because of an existing serial number tattoo. With the matching serial number and description of the dog, police were able to seize the animal and return it to its rightful owners in Lee Creek.

"The return of the dog made a young girl and her family very happy," Staff Sgt. Scott West says in the release.

The steps the family took to tattoo their pet and keep the number was instrumental in getting the dog returned, he says.

West says the investigation is wrapped up and there are no charges at this time.
