Air force rescue crew plucks injured paraglider from Sonora Island mountain side

VANCOUVER – A helicopter rescue crew has plucked a paraglider from a mountain on Sonora Island, one of the Discovery Islands, north of Campbell River on the B.C. coast.

The injured man called for help on a marine-band radio after his glider crashed onto a steep mountain face Sunday night.

A Royal Canadian Air Force Cormorant helicopter crew found the injured man shortly after his call and two rescue technicians were dropped off at the top of the mountain and made their way down to the man.

After stabilizing the paraglider for transport they used a rescue litter to hoist him to safety.

The victim was then taken to a Victoria hospital for care.
