Trio of Lawren Harris paintings up for sale at Heffel spring auction

TORONTO – Three paintings by Group of Seven member Lawren Harris will be up for sale at an upcoming auction.

The Heffel Fine Art Auction House says Harris’s canvas “Laurentian Landscape” is expected to fetch between $1.2 million and $1.6 million.

Heffel says the painting is considered to be “a foundation work for the establishment of the Group of Seven.”

A trio of Harris paintings sold at a Heffel auction last year shattered pre-sale estimates and sold for about $9.5 million.

Works by all original members of the Group of Seven are also on the auction block at the spring Heffel sale.

Paintings by Emily Carr and a post-war canvas by official war artist E.J. Hughes are also up for auction.

The auction on May 25 in Vancouver is estimated to generate between $9 million and $12 million in sales.
