Blue Jays starter Happ taken off field after being hit in head by line drive

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Toronto Blue Jays pitcher J.A. Happ has been taken off the field on a medical cart after being struck in the head by a line drive.

Happ was hit by Tampa Bay Rays centre-fielder Desmond Jennings, who tripled on the play and drove in two runs in the second inning Tuesday.

Happ went to the ground and held his face in his glove as Blue Jays staff and medics went to the mound.

He left with his head braced and a patch over his left eye, but waved his right hand to the crowd just prior to leaving the field.
